Placement: 

Participants who are not currently working as a teacher’s aide, will need to arrange a placement in an educational setting to successfully complete the practical components of this course.

Duration: 

This course is run 1 day a week for 22 weeks (subject to change) with 120 hours of placement.

Pathways

Who is this course for?: 

While this course is open to those already working in an educational setting and supporting students with a range of special needs, this course is primarily designed for people who have had no prior experience as a teacher’s aide but wish to find future employment in this field.

Possible Job Titles: 

Those who successfully complete can find employment in a range of areas, including:
 Teacher’s Aides
 Teacher’s Assistant
 Education Support Workers for students with disabilities
 Integration Aides

The course is designed for: 

 Adults with busy lives
 People who have been absent from the work force
 People wishing to refresh or acquire new skills
 People from non-English speaking backgrounds (see below)
 Early secondary school leavers interested in this field
 Parents who have helped out at their children’s school

Entrance Requirements: 

All applicants must be permanent residents of Australia.
Prior qualifications are not required to enrol in this course, though applicants are expected to have language and literacy skills equivalent to Level 3 and numeracy skills equivalent to Level 2 of the Certificate of General Education for Adults to enable them to complete this course.
All applicants must sit a short entrance test before their enrolment in this course.

Course Charges: 

All charges are fully inclusive and include enrolment fees, course and amenities charges and materials if required.

To be eligible for a funded position applicants must not hold a qualification equal to or higher than this level, either completed in or recognised in Australia.

Making Payments: 

Payments can be made via:

  • Cash
  • Cheque (payable to Meadow Heights Learning Shop Inc.)
  • EFTPOS (available at reception between 9am and 4pm)
  • B-Pay if required or Net Bank Transfer
  • Direct Debit
    -Students pay via Net Bank or
    -Students visit their bank and arrange to have a fortnightly/weekly/monthly amount to be deposited into the MHLS Account

Enrolment Procedures: 

<p>To enrol in this course you will need to come in to our office at the Visy Cares Learning Centre and fill out one of our blue enrolment forms. Upon enrolment you will be asked for proof of ID (a current drivers license /key pass /proof of age card and a current green Medicare card /Australian Birth Certificate/A current Australian or New Zealand Passport/Proof of Permanent residency etc.). Placements in Schools: 

All Certificate III in Education Support students are required to undertake a 120 hour placement in a school setting. If the enrolled student is not currently working as a teachers aide then they are required to organise this placement themselves.
